The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), at the November 2019 governorship election held in Bayelsa State, Senator Duoye Diri, has been sworn in as governor.
Senator Diri was sworn in on Friday, a day after the Supreme Court sacked the former governor-elect of Bayelsa State, David Lyon, and his Deputy, Biobarakuma Degi-Eremieoyo of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The Independent Electoral Commission INEC had earlier in the day presented a fresh Certificate of Return to Diri in compliance with a Supreme Court’s ruling.
The Governor and his deputy Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo were sworn in in Yenegoa, the state’s capital.
Senator Diri, in his acceptance speech, asked Bayelsans to embrace each other in love and avoid hatred which he believes would only inhibit the growth and development of the state.
Today is a remarkable day in the history of Bayelsa State, the Glory of all Lands, as I become the 5th civilian Governor of our great state. I give all glory to God Almighty for making this day possible, pic.twitter.com/nbaDzyecPv
