Pig farmers in Delta State, South-South Nigeria have lauded the state government’s programmes and policies designed to boost pork production.
Mr. Jerry Ossai, the state Chairman, Pig Farmers Association of Nigeria, said that the government had put modalities in place to engage more youths in taking over from the ageing farmers in the state.
He said that the Governor Ifeanyi Okowa-led administration had made appreciable efforts to revive the sector and make it profitable to farmers, adding that pig farming has become more profitable.
According to Ossai, farmers are now reaping more profit from their investment.
Ossai also said that at least 50 young men and women have been trained and empowered in piggery farming under YAGEP and additional 50 farmers were empowered under the government’s Farmers Special Support Programme.
He encouraged Nigerians to see pork meat as a veritable alternative for their protein need.
