The Poultry Association of Nigeria (PAN), Plateau chapter has urged the state government to support poultry farming to thrive to boost its revenue profile.
Johnson Bagudu, the Chairman of the association made the call during the 2019 World Egg Day celebration in Jos.
Bagudu, who stressed that poultry farmers constituted 40 per cent of employers of labour in Plateau, added that government’s support would go a long way in placing the state on the path of growth and development.
“Any government that claims agriculture is one of its cardinal agenda should not neglect the poultry industry.
“So, I want to call on the government of Plateau to support poultry farmers in whichever way it can, so that the industry can grow and the income of the state will improve
“Poultry industry in Kano state is today thriving as well because the state government is supporting the farmers. We can also do it in Plateau,” he urged.
Bagudu also advocated for high consumption of eggs by Nigerians, adding that it has quality nutrients that nourishes the human body and makes the people live healthy.
“As we mark this year’s World Egg Day, I want to call on Nigerians to at least eat one egg in a day because of its value to human system are numerous.
“Egg gives energy, it has a lot of vitamins and it could cure some diseases without one taking medicine,” he said.
Part of the activities marking the day in Plateau is a road show, visit to an orphanage home and the Jos Prisons by members of PAN.
The 2019 World Egg Day has the theme: “Benefits of Egg as Nature’s Supper Food”.
