Argentine forward Sergio Aguero has pleaded with Nigeria’s Super Eagles to beat Iceland today in Volgograd to help restore their World Cup hosts.
Speaking after Argentina were whipped 3-0 by Croatia on Thursday, Aguero reflected on the “disastrous outing” by Albiceleste which has put their campaign in jeopardy.
“It makes me sad and angry but there’s another chance. We depend on others. We did everything we could, but now let’s hope for a miracle or something like that. We have to wait on Nigeria to do us a favour against Iceland and then try to beat them when we play them in our last group game”, the Manchester City forward said.
Aguero scored in Argentina’s first game on Saturday which ended 1-1.
He was substituted after keeper Will Caballero’s error allowed the Croats storm to a shock win.
Argentina must now hope for a miracle in Nigeria’s match later today against Iceland and go out for an outright win against the Super Eagles to stay in Russia for the long haul.
