The Commissioner of Police in charge of Kano State, Ahmad Iliyasu says the new strategy of technical intelligence gathering and community Policing being implemented is enhancing the war against crimes and criminality committed across Nigeria as more suspects are arrested.
The Commissioner stated this during an interactive session with the Police Community Relation Committee, PCRC and other security stakeholders in Bichi area command which comprises Dawakin Tofa, Tofa, Rimin Gado, Bichi and Bagwai local government areas, in the Southern part of the State.
He said using the community policing tools which allow for collaboration with the public and operation “Puff Ader”, the Kano command has in the last six months, beginning from May arrested over 3,000 suspects which is a huge success.
” Our tactical commands, anti kidnapping, operation Puff Adder, technical intelligence gathering, public relations unit included and all other police departments have been overhauled and strengthen to work with general public and the strategy is working well,” Iliyasu said.
He said the PCRC strategy has been formed at the headquarters, all area commands, and divisions across the State as well as some communities with specific challenges, thereby urging people to volunteer credible information.
“At all levels Community Policing is at the for front, in fact Community Policing is at its best here in Kano,” asserted the Commissioner of Police
He urged everybody to key into the new strategy as it is the only way out of the current state of Insecurity in Nigeria.
The Emir of Bichi Aminu Ado Bayero, who was appointed Grand Patron of PCRC in Kano, promised to give all necessary support and cooperation of his emirate towards success of the community Policing strategy.
“Security can’t be guaranteed unless communities collaborate with police in giving out reliable information about criminals and criminality within them,” the Emir said
The legal adviser of the PCRC Barrister Maimuna implore Women to become part and parcel of the committee to enhance information gathering and improve security in the society .
The Chairman Kano State PCRC Sale Jilli Rimin Gado called on traditional rulers to take on their responsibility as it used to be in the past.
“We want our village heads and ward heads to be up and doing, especially on the issue of strangers coming in to live in their communities. Identify them well and where they come from,” he advised.
The periodic interactive Town Hall meeting organised across the State is designed for security stakeholders to rob minds and chart ways forward.
