Postponing Tokyo Olympics, a brave decision – Osaka

Japan’s golden girl of Tennis Naomi Osaka says postponing the 2020 Tokyo Olympics was a ‘brave decision.’

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) on Tuesday decided to postpone the games in the wake of the devastation of the Coronavirus.

This followed massive International pressure and threats of boycotts by countries like the United States, Canada and Britain.

The postponement will deny Osaka a chance to fight for Olympic gold in front of passionate home support, but she seems to support the move.

I’ve been thinking about how to articulate my thoughts on this for a couple of days now, so here goes.

Everyone knows how much the Olympics means to me and how proud I will be to participate in my home country. Of course, I am disappointed that it won’t happen this year, but we’ll all be ready to go stronger than ever in 2021! I support Prime Minister Abe’s brave decision and the IOC 100 percent,”  she said on twitter.

She asked fans to stay safe and observe all the health tips to avoid COVID-19 that has completely shredded the global sporting calendar – Tennis inclusive.

Stay safe everyone, take care of each other, be kind and we will make it through,” she added
