Edo state to establish empowerment programme for Poultry farmers

The Wife of Edo Governor, Mrs Betsy Obaseki has promised to establish a poultry empowerment programme for 10,000 female farmers in each of the 18 Local Government Areas of Edo.

Obaseki made this known while addressing chairmen of the 18 local government areas in the office of the deputy governor of the State.

She said that she would distribute a certain breed of birds developed by an indigenous company to the beneficiaries.

According to her, the birds are bigger than the local breeds while their females lay more eggs.

She said that 10 established poultry farmers across the three senatorial districts of Edo would first take care of the birds from a day-old to five-weeks before they would be transferred to the beneficiaries adding adding that each beneficiary would get 40 birds comprising 20 males and 20 females.

She further explained that the project was targeted at dual goals of addressing poverty and malnutrition because the females birds lay more and healthier eggs.
