President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the sum of Five billion Naira for the National Research Fund, to enable scholars of tertiary institutions conduct research for the development of Nigeria.
The Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, Professor Elias Bogoro stated this at the inauguration of a national research fund screening and monitoring committee.
Professor Bogoro explained that the approval was the highest since the establishment of the National Research Fund in 2009.
He noted that the fund covers the areas of Science, Technology and Innovation, Humanities and social sciences.
Professor Bogoro said the committee was made up of academics of repute that can devote their time and energy to critically review research proposals competing for fund with a view to recommending for grants.
He tasked members to identify fundable proposals through the various mechanisms of the committee for sponsorship.
Chairman of the National Research Fund Screening and Monitoring Committee, Professor Olufemi Bamiro pledge to commence work immediately to enable researchers access research funds and provide outcomes that can move the nation to the next level of development.
