President Buhari commissions Kaduna surveillance system

President Muhammadu Buhari has commissioned the Command and Control Centre of the Kaduna State surveillance and monitoring system.

During the commissioning in Kaduna on Thursday, he  said tackling security challenges across the Country requires intense corporation between both Federal and State governments.

The President commended the decision of the State government in committing significant resources required for  infusing technology into the security architecture.

He explained that, Kaduna State was the first to embark on this laudable Investment worth N1,24bn.

The Nigerian leader commended the vision and determination of the APC administration in the State.

The aerial  surveillance and monitoring system includes a combination of fixed wind drones and higher resolution cameras that are put in several locations across the State.

High Capability Cameras
The drones has high capability cameras that can relay real time information even in darkness and within the jungles.

President Buhari advised management of the surveillance system to work closely with the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria and the Ministry of Defence to safe guard civilians and Military Air traffic.

He expressed delight over the support and corporation the Kaduna State government accords security agencies that are deployed especially with regards to the  provision of land for the construction of Kafanchan operation based of the Nigerian Army.

Kaduna State Governor, Nasiru El-Rufai stated that the Aerial monitoring system includes an Emergency Situation Notification System designed to enable residents of the State to report security incidents to a toll-free number, after which the drones can then be deployed within minutes for appropriate monitoring.

Approval from NCC
He said government is awaiting approval from the Nigerian Communication Commission, NCC to deploy the special toll free number as emergency number.

He noted his believe in technology which can enhance the hard work of the security agencies, hence the need to invest in  modern technology.

The Governor explained that, the drones have night time capability that they are equiped with formal cameras and is proceeded with the security mapping of the entire State.

He called on the President to support the State in securing the final approval of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority for the full deployment of the system that has been operated on a pilot basis.

Governor El-Rufai mentioned that, the Aerial monitoring system includes an emergency notifications system to enable every resident in Kaduna to report incidence.

He said it took the State two years to commission the Aerial system at the cost of 1.24 billion Naira in this very difficult times.

He added that the State government has an ongoing project to install State wide close circute television that would enable them take real time live video of all activities within the State that will track criminals.
