President Muhammadu Buhari has predicted that the next four years of his administration will be tough.
The President, who spoke on Friday while in audience with members of his cabinet, noted that building on the gains of his first term of office will not be easy as he concentrates on his three point agenda of improving security, revamping the economy and fighting corruption.
“Our last lap or my last lap of four years, I think is going to be tough because people are very forgetful and that was why wherever I went I reminded them of the campaign by our party, the APC of the three fundamental issues we are concentrating on, security, I told them that you have to secure the country or institution, to mange it properly. Secondly, the economy; the unemployed able bodies is the problem of this country as a whole. They have to be kept busy,” he said.
The President, who took time to explain why he had to embark on a nationwide campaign ahead of the election, said he had to prove to the world how fit he was.
He said: “I covered the entire states and Abuja, mainly for two reasons; firstly to prove to the other side (opposition) that I am fit. I had to do that because while on campaign, I had to sometimes cover two states per day and secondly not to allow anybody to feel that any state has been left out. So I thank God that he gave me the strength and health to see through my plan and I think it is appreciated based on the silence from the other side.
“I am very pleased, people are appreciating what we have done, as I visited the states I saw the way people turned up. Those were crowds that you could not buy. People voluntarily turned up and I am very pleased with that and the result of course is winning the election.”
The entire Ministers serving under the Nigerian leader were in the State House on Friday, to formally congratulate President Buhari for winning the 2019 Presidential election.
The Secretary to Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha said that the successes recorded by President Buhari in his first term of office have laid a very strong foundation for the development of the country.
“Your Excellency, the Change you promised four years ago to put the Nigerian economy on a sustainable development path; restore security of lives and property; and to fight corruption has laid the firm foundation for growth. Your commitment, dedication and purposeful leadership have indeed become the springboard that has taken us to the Next Level,” he said.
Mustapha highlighted some of the achievements recorded by President Muhammadu Buhari, which he said have strengthened the capacity of government to deliver good governance for citizens, adding that the public service is also satisfied with the President’s performance.
“The leadership of the Public Service is happy because this re-election will deepen the on-going reforms aimed at strengthening its capacity for the delivery of good governance. For the records, we recall your reform achievements signposted by the introduction of the Treasury Single Account [TSA], Bank Verification Number (BVN), Presidential Initiative on Continuous Audit (PICA), the Open Government Partnership [0GP], the whistle blower policy, the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan [FCSSIP] 2017-2020, your commitment to the implementation of the Minimum Wage as well as to the welfare of the Nigerian workers. All of these have combined to transform the Public Service into effective and productive machinery,” he said.
High point of the event was the presentation of congratulatory cards to the President by the Secretary to Government and the Head of the Civil Service, Winifred Oyo-Ita.
