President Buhari pledges to strengthen anti-corruption fight

In a colourful ceremony, Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari flagged-off his second term campaign on the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom state in the Niger Delta area of Nigeria.

President Buhari at the event, restated his commitment to fighting corruption, improving the economy and security while also reeling out what he said were the achievements of his administration in the last three and a half years.

“We have seized stolen properties and cash from politician, a single treasury account is now in operation, food imports have reduced and the treat of insurgency through Boko Haram reduced drastically”, he said to cheering audience.

He challenged the opposition parties to take him up on his achievements or score card during campaigns into the 2019 election.

The APC Presidential candidate appreciated Nigerians for their support more importantly, people in the Southern part of the country.

Party leaders in the Southern Nigeria including Comrade Hilliard Etta, Senator Godswill Akpabio, Chief Don Etiebet, Chief Umana Umana , Honourable Inionong Okopido,Eseme Eyiboh, spokesman of APC in Akwa Ibom state, Obong Nsima Ekere , Gubernatorial candidate of Akwa Ibom state , took time off to equally expressed satisfaction on the deliverance of democratic dividends to the people of Akwa Ibom state and the entire region.

According to the party leaders, President Muhammadu Buhari has shown uncommon leadership qualities in the areas of fighting corruption, improving the economy through massive investment in infrastructure especially road construction in the Southern part of the country through the interventions of the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC projects. The schools feeding programme and provision of employment through N-power scheme and loans to traders have endeared the populace to the APC presidential candidate.


The Southern political leaders of the ruling party, APC assured the president of massive support at the polls in February securing over70 per cent votes for APC. In the words of Senator Akpabio and others “Akwa Ibom will vote massively for APC and president Buhari in February and win every available elective positions and mobiles support across the Southern states”.

The highlights of the campaign was the presentation of party flags to all the APC candidates in the southern states and the Presidential candidate by the National party chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole to the admiration of the ecstatic crowd and party supporters.
All APC states Governors, serving political officers from the southern states principally, Ministers of Transport, petroleum, Labour, Science and Technology, Heads of Parastatals or government agencies . National Party leaders across Nigeria including Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu attended the presidential campaigns flag off in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state.
