The Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari says he will not be seeking a third term in office.
The President said he swore to uphold the Nigerian constitution which is what he will do.
He was speaking at the National Executive Committee NEC, meeting of the governing party, the All Progressives Congress, APC, held at the party’s National secretariat in Abuja.
“I said you should read the constitution because I am not going to make the mistake of attempting to have a third term or whatever term. Beside the age, I swore by the holy book I believe in that I will go by the constitution and the constitution says two terms,” President Buhari said.
He stressed the need for the APC members to read the constitution of the party, understand and obey it.
The President further enjoined the NEC members and all elected members of APC to earn the respect of their constituent in order to dominate their constituencies.
He said; “Every member of NEC should from today reposition himself or herself to make sure that you have dominated your constituencies politically, the aim is that history will not be fair to us if the APC collapses at the end of this term, history will be fair if the APC remains strong and not only holds the centre but make gains.
“You must make sure that the people elected from polling units to wards to local government to state to here are respected in their respective constituencies. This is the only way we can make this party survive and this is the only way that history will be kind to us that we have led with absolute concern for the country and for the people.”
