President Muhammadu Buhari says government is decisively addressing new security challenges confronting Nigeria.
According to him, security challenges will be squarely tackled locally as the country maintains its regional and international commitment on the same issue.
President Buhari made the declaration on Tuesday while receiving his second term nomination form from a group known as National Consolidation Ambassadors Network in Abuja.
The President who took time to enumerate some of the achievements of his administration, pledged to do more for the country if re-elected.
“On the National security front, we have made very much progress in the North-east. On infrastructure development, we are completing all rail and road projects. We are reviving the power projects; we are developing affordable housing projects across the country. We have also commenced the long and overdue repairs and upgrade of our sea as well as the airport facilities,” the President stated.
He noted that Nigeria’s governing party, the All Progressives Congress APC, was getting stronger, despite the recent defections.
President Buhari stressed that the current administration’s fight against corruption would continue, although it has not been easy.
“Our fight against corruption is already yielding results. The implementation of the Treasury Single Account TSA, has stopped the siphoning of funds. Our aggressive anti corruption campaign has shown that it is no longer business as usual, our Economic Recovery and Growth Plan has created the platform for a diversified, sustainable and inclusive economy for future generations. These achievements over the past three years have not been easy. Corruption has been fighting back from both within and outside but we held our ground,” he explained.
Presenting the APC expression of interest Coordinator of the group, Sanusi Musa said the achievements of President Buhari in three years, especially through the Social investment Programmes, spurred them to purchase the Presidential form him through cash contributions by members of the group spared across Nigeria.
“Today we have young people that are engaged in so many sectors of the economy. Mr President we want to thank you for your social investments programmes, which have been spearheaded by young people, whom are learning from you and we believe with your coming back in 2019, we are investing in our future,” Musa said.
The Deputy Chairman of the group, Mr Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba said the National Consolidation Ambassadors Network NCAN, has rated President Buhari’s administration so high that it could not do otherwise, than to endorse the President for a second term of office, thus the purchase of the form for him.
Mr Nwajiuba said: “NCAN, is a network of young Nigerians in various fields of endeavour who following the assumption of office of the present administration, came together to make a conscious effort to keep tab of the policies, programmes and projects of this administration, with a view to making an informed contribution towards the growth of a virile and stable country, that we all can be proud of…Ambassadors, who in the main are from all parts of the country, organised even to each of the over 120, 000 polling units in the country, consist of mainly young persons in different and varying professions.’’
“The group assessed the leadership principles, practices and proficiencies of President Buhari, seeing the dogged seriousness and focus with which despite all the challenges, this administration has delivered and continues to deliver on its promises, and other matters arising in the course of governance. From the massive reestablishment of security of lives and property by reclaiming the territorial integrity of our country even in the face of threat from within, to the redirection and strengthening of our economy, by increased productive capacity in agriculture and financial prudence even in the face of an almost negative balance sheet in 2015, and massive infrastructural development, whilst growing our reserves. He has also reined in systemic corruption by firmly enforcing even erstwhile policies, which no one had the courage or the strength of character to enforce, be it the TSA, the IPPSA, the EGP, the operating freedom of law enforcement, in dutiful compliance with the laws of our land. The list is endless. Nigerians for the first time in many years could see a leader who painstakingly took decisions solely on the bases of national interest, above his or anyone else,’’ he explained.
The National Consolidation Ambassadors Network had last week purchased the APC nomination form at the cost of N45 million for President Buhari, while he was away in China, attending the forum on China-Africa Cooperation.
