President promises stability and revitalisation of economy

Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari has restated the commitment of his administration to create enabling environment for job opportunities, stabilize the economy and return Nigeria to its pride of place among the comity of nations.

President Buhari gave the assurance at the Official inauguration of the Ikeja Bus Terminal held at Ikeja Lagos state south west Nigeria provided by the Lagos state government to address the challenges of Public transportation in the state.

The President explained that the issue of public transportation across the country would be improved upon while government leverages on the support of the state government to cushion the effect in that regards.

President Buhari who is in Lagos on a two-day working visit commended Governor Akinwunmi Ambode for the developmental strides made in the space of three years in governance, particularly in the reform of public transportation.

“I commend the governor for the ornamental stride he made within the space of three years of his government. I also recognize the crucial role that the state government in reforming the country’s transportation system especially the bus reform projects which will make modern transportation better and available to the people,” President Buhari said.

The President who reechoed the zeal of his government to create environmental friendly economy seek people’s support for sustainable development.

“I acknowledge the vision of Lagos State for revamping the railway transportation system as I remain committed to all progressive ideas to further stabilizing the economy, create enabling environment for job creation, Tackling security and create Nigeria respect ability,” President added

Lagos story
Lagos state Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode who was delighted to host Mr. President  explained that the bus  terminal is one of the thirteen terminals planned for the state to ease transportation system in the state.

The Governor who stated that plans were also being made to create bus assembly plant for the transport initiative to create jobs for residents said that his administration was also promoting non-motorised transportation such as walking and cycling paths to promote healthy living among residents and would continue to count on the support of the Nigeria Government to actualise the objective of a functional, efficient and integrated transport system to support the State’s growing population and facilitate commerce.

Ikeja Bus Terminal
Ikeja Bus Terminal is one of our flagship transport infrastructure under the State Bus Reform Initiative. The first phase of this programme will see 13 new Bus terminals introduced including major terminals at Oshodi, Yaba, Ojota, Agege and the already completed Tafawa Balewa Bus Terminal.

We have commenced the introduction of 5,000 new buses into the Lagos economy in the next 3 years. We will inject 820 environmentally-friendly high capacity buses in the first phase of this reform by September 2018, 300 New Bus Stops, 3 Bus Depots, and Intelligent Transport System which will aid Lagosians to plan their journeys on our public transport system.” Governor Ambode said

Import -Duty waiver
Governor Ambode thanked the President for waving the importation tax on five thousand air-conditioned buses which would be operated from the terminal.

“On behalf of the people of Lagos State, I want to publicly acknowledge the approval of Mr. President, for the import-duty waiver received on the buses in the Phase One of this programme with a further step that the next phase will be assembled here in Lagos to create jobs for our people.

Our goal is to have the Assembly Plants within the next 20 months in Lagos.”

On-going projects
We are promoting Non-Motorised Transport such as walking and cycling paths to give our people modal choices while promoting healthy living.

Work is ongoing on the 27-kilometre Blue Line Rail project from Okokomaiko West of Lagos to Marina in Central Lagos. We are in discussions with various investors and stakeholders on our urban rail project, the Red Line from Alagbada to Marina.

Mr. President, the success of a highly populated, cosmopolitan smart city-State like Lagos is strongly dependent on the efficiency of its transportation system. We are committed to a functional, efficient and integrated transport system which will support our population and facilitate our commerce. We will continually work till we achieve this objective and we will always count on your usual support.” Governor added

Governor Ambode explained that in the last three years, the state has been working to ensure provision of a new integrated transport system to support the state’s growing population.

Tinubu Colloquium
Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari was also the special guest of honour at the 10th edition of the Bola Tinubu Colloquium to celebrate the 66th birthday of the All Progressives Congress APC Chieftain, Mr. Bola Ahmed Tinubu where he restated his administration’s commitment to invest in the people and uplift their living standard in all ramifications.

President Buhari eulogized the efforts of the celebrant at repositioning the political landscape of the country.

The Bola Tinubu Colloquium, tenth in its series is with the theme: ‘Investing In People’.
