President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday assented to the Medical Residency Training Act 2018 and the Hydro Electric Power Producing Areas Development Commission Amendment bill.
Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (Senate) Mr Ita Enang disclosed this to State House Correspondents shortly after the President signed the bill into law.
Enang said the Medical Residency Training Act 2018 which has just been signed by the President would ensure continuous and post-graduate training of medical doctors in Nigeria.
“His Excellency, the President has assented to the Medical Residency Training act 2018. This Act was directed at ensuring continuous and post-graduate training of medical doctors and it was intended again, to ensure the quality of medical practice in the country as well as reverse medical tourism so that people would now be coming into the country for treatment,” he said.
Enang said the Act stipulates that the programme would be managed by the National Post-Graduate Medical College of Nigeria and meant for those who already have their first degrees in Medicine or Surgery and have finished their National Youth Service Corps programme and possessed indemnity insurance certificate from a reputable insurance company.
