Provost calls for professionalism in Education

Salisu Waziri, Taraba

The Provost, Collage of Education Zing, Mr. Mike Dioh has called for the appointment of credible and competent persons into government offices for effective governance especially in the education sector.

This is coming as most governors are brainstorming to reshuffle their key officials to fit in various offices.

Mr. Dioh made the call in an interview with Voice of Nigeria in Jalingo the Taraba State capital.

He said most of the strike being experienced in higher institutions in Nigeria was as a result of poor handling of issues and lack of competence of some officials.

“The office of the President of a Federation and the  office State Governor is in a way that power is divulged, delegation are made to others so as to carryout responsibilities unless you have competent and people who know what they are doing the whole thing will bounce back to the chief executive who will suffer, so i think weather at the State or National level handlers of education must be proactive,” Mr Dioh said.

While expressing concern over the rate at which institutions in Nigeria are been shutdown due to strike actions, he cautioned that official should not allow issues to get out of hands before they act on them.

He called on the unions to always explore other options to address issues rather than embarking on strike.

“I have always encourage that strike action should be the last options for unions, you can use other options like dialogue, God has give us the opportunity to dialogue so let us use it rather than going on strike actions,” he said.

Mr. Mike Dioh was recently reappointed as the Provost College of Education Zing for the second term by the Taraba State Governor Darius Ishaku Dickson.
