Supporters of Rangers International FC of Enugu have hailed their team’s 2-1 win over Lobi Stars of Makurdi and called for more at the ongoing Nigeria Professional Football League Super Six.
Rangers defeated Lobi Stars 2-1 in their second match of the ongoing competition in Lagos and will on Saturday June 8, trade tackle with Akwa United in the Match Day 3.
Some of the supporters say the club deserved a continental slot.
Star Plus FC coach, Anistar Izuikem said that Rangers should put in their best in their remaining matches of the Super Six to justify their abridged league Group A position.
“It will be disastrous if Rangers who topped the Group A ahead of other clubs like Lobi Stars and Enyimba with 40 points lose out on the trophy and continental slot.
“People are seeing Rangers as one of the favourites to win the Super Six trophy and as it stands now, the club has to work hard for it,” he said.
Blaise Ude, the Enugu State Boxing Coach, expressed optimistism that the club could still win the competition and at worst get a continental ticket.
“We almost lost hope on the Super Six but thank God we beat Lobi Stars, the players should know that no team is unbeatable.
“I believe that the win over Lobi Stars was the turnaround point for the club to win the competition,” Ude said.
Chijioke Njoku, a business man in Enugu said that he was elated that Rangers beat Lobi Stars to brighten their chance in the Super Six.
“We know that some of the players were not fully fit but I think that all the players in Rangers deserved to be among the first eleven.
“So, we are looking forward to see the players finish the good job they started in the abridged league Group A,” Njoku said.
Kano Pillars FC, Akwa United, Lobi Stars, Rangers FC and Enyimba FC still stand the chance of lifting the trophy or picking a slot to continental competition.
