The government of Oyo State and the Police Command have vowed to work together to ensure the arrest of killers of a pregnant woman and an 18 year old University of Ibadan undergraduate who was raped and killed.
The seven month old pregnant woman, Azeezat Shomuyiwa, 29, was killed in Ijefun, near L. Adisa Quarry off Moniya-Oyo road and the 18 year old University of Ibadan undergraduate, Barakat Bello, was raped and killed in the Akinyele Local Government Area of the State.
The Special Adviser to Governor Seyi Makinde on Security Matters, Fatai Owoseni, the new Commissioner of Police in the State, Chucks Enwonwu, promised to arrest the killers while paying condolence visits to the families of Barakat Bello and Azezat Shomuyiwa in Ibadan on Friday.
The duo were unanimous in condemning the incidents, assuring the families of the deceased persons that the security agencies in the State would soon fish out the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
Barely three days after young Barakat Bello was reportedly killed at Kara area in Akinyele Local Government, another incident occurred in Ijefun, off Moniya-Oyo road, where seven month old pregnant Shomuyiwa was killed by unidentified persons.
The Special Adviser and the Commissioner of Police were told by members of the community that the late Shomuyiwa was hit with a big stone while inside her room.
Residents also stated that the woman had just returned from Kano in February where her husband, Mr Dikrulai, had just secured an employment after completing his mandatory one year NYSC programme.
The trio of CP Enwonwu, Retired ComPol Fatai Owoseni, as well as the Executive Assistant to Governor Makinde on Security, Sunday Odukoya (rtd) also visited Akinyele town where 18 year old Barakat Bello was reportedly killed by unknown persons on Monday.
The officials urged residents of the two communities to be security conscious and report any suspicious or suspected movement to the Police for the safety of their lives and Property.
