RATTAWU canvasses for payment of hazard allowance to members

Radio Television and Theartre Arts Workers, RATTAWU, is canvassing for the payment of hazard allowance to media workers across the country.

The Chairman of RATTAWU, Radio Nigeria Harmony FM Idofian branch, Kwara State, Comrade Shomo Musebu said this while addressing Journalists in Ilorin.

“An appeal has gone to the Federal Government to effect immediate payment of hazard allowance for all media workers in the country following the level of hazards they are exposed to as they discharge their duties”, Musebu said.

Comrade Musebu explained that unusual times like that occasioned by the novel coronavirus gives justification for the payment of hazard allowance to media workers.

Musebu commended journalists world over, especially those reporting and covering the Coronavirus Pandemic, stressing that the adequate welfare and comprehensive insurance package must be provided for Journalists in line with international best practices.

The labour leader commended government’s proactive efforts at flattening the curve of the pandemic and called for sustained efforts to win the battle against COVID-19.

Comrade Musebu thereafter, advised journalists in the line of duty, to be more careful and to maintain social distancing while doing their job to protect themselves from being infected by the disease.

“I also want to enjoy the journalists in Nigeria to be conscious of the ethics of the profession while discharging their responsibilities”.
