The ruling All Progressive Congress APC in Kano state has won six out of the seven seats contested for in the just concluded rerun elections, as the Former Chief Whip of the Nigerian House of Representative, Alasa Ado-Dogowa clinched the ticket for Dogowa/ Tudun Wada Federal Constituency.
The re-run elections were held for National and State House of Assembly based on court rulings.
Honorable, Dogowa polled 66,667 votes to beat the PDP candidate, Air Commodore Yushau Salisu (rtd), who scored 6,323 votes.
The Returning Officer for Dogowa/ Tudunwada Federal constituency Professor Mansur Auwalu while announcing the result said “Dogowa of the APC having satisfied the necessary requirements of the law and with highest votes in the election is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected.”
Dogowa shortly after the announcement expressed satisfaction over the conduct of the election and dedicated his victory to “the people of his constituency, Kano people and Nigerians in general,” just as he declared to “work in any position or level given to him at the green chamber upon resumption.”
APC candidate, Munir Dan’Agundi representing Kumbotso Federal constituency also regained his seat polling 32,114 to beat the PDP candidate Umar Bala who scored 31,258
The main opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party candidate, Datti Yako clinched the Bebeji/Kiru Federal Constituency with 48,641 to beat the former Chairman Appropriation Committee of the House of Representatives, Hounourable, Jubrin Kofa, who scored 13, 507 votes
The Returning Officer for Bebeji/ Kiru Federal Constituency, Professor Abdullahi Arabi said Yako polled 48,641 to beat 18 other party contestants including Jubrin Kofa of APC who polled 13,507,” stressing that having “met necessary requirements of the law and with the highest vote is declared the winner and returned elected.”
Kofa in a statement alleged rigging in the election but has since conceded defeat saying “legal action will not be taken against the result while pledging loyalty to the APC at all levels.”
For the State Assembly, the APC also won Madobi constituency with 25, 403 as against the 23,625 of the PDP, the ruling party equally won neck to neck in Minjibri constituency, with 18,455 to beat PDP which scored 17, 607. The winning streak continued in Rogo constituency as APC scored 26, 730 to defeat PDP that scored 26, 362 and Bunkure constituency APC polled 20, 566 as against the 19,941 of the PDP.
The rerun elections were held in 698 polling units in 9 local government areas in Kano state.
Kano was among the eleven states in which the rerun election were held across Nigeria, based mostly on court rulings nullifying some of the results of the general elections held in the first quarter of 2019.
