The success of the 3-5-2 formation used by Nigeria in the second half of their 1-2 friendly loss to the Three Lions of England could make them consider switching to the formation when the World Cup begins.
Nigeria were a lot better in the second half after switching to the above mentioned formation in the second half to curb the way England dominated the first half when they were lined up in 4-2-3-1 formation.
Since taking over as coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria Gernot Rohr has favoured a 4-2-3-1 formation but after the success of the 3-5-2 formation against Argentina last year and on Saturday against England it appears the Eagles will line up in same way at Russia 2018.
Rohr gave this hint while speaking on the impressive second half display of the Super Eagles against England and the lessons learnt as they continue their preparations for the World Cup.
“The most positive is the second half because the team did well, we scored a very nice goal immediately and this organisation (3-5-2) gave us a lot of satisfaction”, Rohr said after the game.
“I now have other possibilities tactically and the players who came in did very well especially in midfield, we played football like we want to play”, he said.
As a matter of fact, the duo of Onazi and Obi could be dropped entirely from the squad for the friendly game against Czech Republic as Rohr was very impressed with the performance of Oghenekaro Etebo following his introduction against England.
