Rohr rules out calling Dessers for Super Eagles next World Cup Qualifiers

Coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Gernot Rohr says Dutch League top scorer Cyriel Dessers will not be in his plans for the start of the qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup next year,

Dessers who is born to a Nigerian father and a Belgium mother pledged his international future to Nigeria ahead of Belgium in a chat with the president of the Nigeria Football Federation ( NFF) Amaju Pinnick.

The Dutch League top scorer with eleven goals was widely expected to be in the mix for the Super Eagles when they regroup next year but Rohr has dampened his hope insisting that the games in March won’t be the ideal game to try new players.

According to Rohr, the fact that the Super Eagles will be playing a World Cup Qualifiers means they have to approach the game with players he is familiar with but he however said Dessers could get his chance if they are able to get a friendly game before the World Cup 2022 qualifiers.

” With the next FIFA window, we will already be in the qualifiers for the (2022) World Cup, so it will not be the moment to try new things with players we have never seen before,” Rohr said

“You never know what can happen, we will see because I think before the FIFA [World Cup] qualifiers, we would have perhaps a friendly, this is the moment to test new players.”
