Senate President addresses press conference, vows to protect democracy

Senate President Bukola Saraki has addressed a press conference on the Tuesday blockade of the National Assembly by DSS operatives, and vowed to ensure that democracy thrives as well as ensure justice and fairness.

He said that the siege on the National Assembly was an act of cowardice by those who orchestrated the attack out of desperation to remove him.

He said the incidence prevented the leadership of NASS from meeting with the officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and promised that the meeting would still hold.

He expressed commitment to the conduct of free and fair elections in 2019.

He appealed to the President Muhammadu Buhari to assent to the new electoral bill.

Saraki said it was not right to talk about the issues of impeachment of Buhari.

Even though, he commended Acting President Yemi Osinbajo on the sack of the DSS boss, Lawal Daura, he said the action is long overdue.
