The Nigerian Senate has reaffirmed its commitment to fighting the nation’s common enemy to ensure a better living standard for the citizenry. President of the Senate Dr. Ahmad Lawan gave this latest assurance at a news briefing held on Monday in Abuja.
He explained that the 9th Senate would pass a legislation to tackle challenges of poverty, disease, insecurity, corruption among others, which he described as the common enemies of the country.
Senator Lawan further explained that the Senate gave expeditious passage to the 2020 budget in order to return the nation’s budget circle to the desirable January and December period for adequate planning and implementation.
On the issue of stable electricity, Senator Lawan assured Nigerians that the shortcomings identified in the privatization of the nation’s assets such as in the power sector, would be adequately addressed for maximum benefit.
The president of the senate appealed to newsmen for balanced and more patriotic reportage that could fast track national development.
Earlier, the senate minority Leader, Senator Eyinanya Abaribe said the 9th Senate would not relent in ensuring robust debate on issues of national interest.
Senator Abaribe assured Nigerians that the present Senate would not be divided along party lines, adding that lawmakers would ensure legislation to improve the life of all citizens.
