Sokoto State sets up committee to improve salary

The Sokoto State Government has constituted a steering committee to come up with a strategy that will assist in improving salary and Internally Generated Revenue, IGR.

Inaugurating the committee in Sokoto, the Secretary to the State Government, Mr Sai’du Umar said the it was set up in realisation of the need to address discrepancies in the Administration of salary in the state.

Mr Umar explained that for years salary figures differ from the data from Ministry of finance, Office of the Head of Service in the State and that of Civil Service Commission.

He said that ”the committee aimed at harmonising the figures with a view to ensuring a common figure in all Ministries Department and Agencies.”

He further said that the fluctuating Internally generated revenue in the state would also be looked into with a view to having an improved Internally Generated Revenue.

The Secretary hoped that at the end of the exercise desired goal would be achieved through harmonised exercise.

According to him, the committee comprised Commissioner of Budget and Economic Planning, Balarabe Kakale as Chairman, with Commissioner of Finance, Abdussamad Dasuki, Environment, Sagir Attahiru Bafarawa and that of Establishment, Sani Bunu, as members.

Other members include of the representative of the office of the Head of Service, Permanent Secretaries of Ministries of Basic and Secondary Education, Health, Local Government and Finance.

Mr Umar stated that other relevant stakeholders like labour Unions, and staff of Tertiary Institutions could be co-opted into the committee.

The Secretary to the State Government expressed confidence in the ability of the members of the committee to discharge their assignment successfully.
