The Minister of Sports and Youth Development, Mr Sunday Dare has reiterated the determination of his Ministry to concentrate more on youth games in order to develop sports at the grassroots level.
The Minister gave the assurance on Monday evening when he paid a courtesy visit on the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Professor Sulynan Age Abdulkareem before the formal opening of the 2019 edition of the National Youth Games which the university is hosting.
The minister, who was received by the Vice Chancellor disclosed that the ministry has decided to identifying with one university in each geopolitical zones and confer on them center of sports, adding that Unilorin is a prime candidate for the project.
The sports minister said they want to return the country back to an era where culture of sports development began at a very youthful level.
In his few remark, the Vice Chancellor,Professor Abdulkareem appealed to the minister to support the institution in terms of facilities to make the games comfortable for the athletes.
No fewer than thirty three states across the federation have arrived Ilorin the state capital, North Central Nigeria for the 2019 edition, as the game i kicks off on Tuesday at the University of Ilorin.
