Fans of the Super Eagles on social media are still celebrating the 2-0 win over Iceland on Friday in Russia.
Two second half goals by Ahmed Musa handed Nigeria a way back into contention in group D, with Croatia now confirmed as the first to qualify for the next round.
Nigerians used social media platforms to celebrate the win.
“This is true Naija spirit, we live to fight, to defy odds,” said avid fan Bolu Olaosebikan via twitter.
“Iceland melted and the Eagles flew away,” Jimi Babarinde noted on twitter as well.
In Calabar, fans celebrating the victory at various places, including viewing centres and relaxation joints, said the players exhibited the Nigerian spirit of “a hard fighting people’’.
A Calabar based-journalist, David Odey, said that the victory was a very great come back for the Super Eagles.
Odey described the Eagles’ performance as spectacular, saying that it had rekindled the hope of the team.
According to him, the team will go far in the tournament if they replicate the same performance against the Argentina.
“The coach needs to get his act right by picking the players that will be able to defeat Argentina and progress to the knockout stage of the tournament,” he said.
Football fans in Awka were on Friday sent into wild jubilation as the Super Eagles of Nigeria beat the Strakkamir of Okkar of Iceland.
At Ofiaku kitchen extension, a popular joint in Awka, the atmosphere was lit up with enthusiastic supporters of the Eagles celebrating the victory.
The spectators erupted shouting and dancing in the 49th minute when Ahmed Musa scored the first goal with a clinical finish.
“This boys have surprised me, Iceland played draw with “almighty” Argentina, and we lost to Croatia in the opening game, so this match is a good one for Nigeria.
“I am happy that Nigeria has announced her arrival at the World Cup, Musa the man of the match today,” he said.
Another fan, Nnamdi Onyema, applauded coach Gernot Rohr for listening to the criticisms from the first match and working on the identified lapses.
Onyema said the line up should be used in the game against Argentina noting that a victory was possible and Nigeria could advance to the next level of the competition.
Soccer fans in Kaduna also joined the celebrations.
Isaiah Benjamin Chairman, Sports Writers’ Association of Nigeria, Kaduna state chapter, said with the players’ display in the match he was confident that the team would defeat Argentina in their last group match.
“I am impressed with the performance put so far by the eagles. With this they have proven to us that we are going places.
“I believe they will work on their weaknesses and play our next match as a work-over game against Argentina.”
He urged the Coach to maintain the squad adding that having Musa for a start in the game was a plus for the team.
Jide Bodunde of Brila FM said the victory was well deserved as they took their chances in the second half and utilised them.
” I am happy they did well in the second half by utilizing their chances and scoring the goals.
” The first half was dominated by the Iceland whose chances of goal scoring was not well used but am happy when the Eagles had the opportunity it came with goals.
” I urge them not to relent In their efforts but work hard for the next match so that we can qualify to the next stage.”
