Supplementary Polls: Sokoto state governor wins re-election

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has declared Peoples Democratic, PDP Candidate and the incumbent Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, winner of the state gubernatorial election.

Announcing the supplementary election result, the INEC state Collation/Returning officer and Vice Chancellor Federal University Dutse, Professor Fatima Batul Mukhtar, said the PDP candidate Aminu Tambuwal scored 2,244 while the All Progressive Congress, APC candidate Ahmad Aliyu, got 25515.

Professor Mukhtar added that the margin of the supplementary election was that APC candidate is leading with 3,071.

The total registered votes for the rerun election was 95,022, Total Accredited votes was 50,332, Total votes cast 4,9970, Total valid votes: 48, 390, and Total rejected votes: 1580.

Proceeding to announce the final results, Professor Batul Mukhtar, said Governor Tambuwal polled a total of 512, 002 votes to defeat his closest challenger the APC candidate, Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto who scored 511, 660 votes.

“Having satisfied with the highest number of votes scored by the People Democratic Candidate, Tambuwal Aminu Waziri, he is therefore declared winner of the election,” Professor Mukhtar said.

She added that the incumbent Governor is now declared re-elected.
