Tetfund restates commitment to knowledge-based economy

The Tertiary Education Trust Fund TETFund, has restated its commitment to support the country’s desire to achieve a knowledge based economy driven by research.

The Executive Secretary of TETFund, Prof. Suleiman Bogoro stated this in Abuja while receiving the Chairman, Economic Advisory Committee to the President, Dr Doyin Salami, who paid him a courtesy visit.

While stressing the importance of the visit, the TETFund boss said most successful  countries are fast leaving behind resource-based economy to knowledge-based economy, hence, Nigeria cannot be an exception.

“When a Chief Economy Advisor to the president visit any organisation at a time like this and especially, an education based Institution, what is clear is underlining the relevance of education sector to the economy and it could not be otherwise in the 21st century when knowledge economy is the main thing and it is fashion driven, perfected by research and innovation, creativity and deepening research specifically,” Bogoro said.

On his part, the Presidential adviser commended TETFund for making efforts to shift from infrastructural aspect to a content based approach, saying that it is something that needed to be intensify so that Nigeria can be able to solve national problems.

Salami called for more focus on projects promoting innovation and entrepreneurship as they are vital to the development of a nation.

“As a nation if we are going to develop to the benefits of our people, it is not about GDP growth, it is about Economic development that is beneficial to all Nigerians.”
