Thugs hijack election materials for a ward in Cross River

Thugs have hijacked materials meant for the Abi State constituency rerun election in Cross River State, south-south Nigeria.
The materials, which were being conveyed by boat to Afafanyi-Igonogoni ward, were hijacked midway into the voyage by unknown gun men.
Afafanyi-Igonogoni ward is one of the five wards where the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, was to conduct the rerun election for Abi State constituency seat.
Security operatives were said to be on the heels of the hijackers to retrieve the election materials.
Meanwhile, INEC deployed election materials very early to the polling units within Itighidi, the headquarters of Abi local government area and accreditation and voting commenced at 8 o’ clock this morning at the polling units.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Johnson Alalibo and the National Commissioner, Dr. Mohammed Lekki are set to visit some of the polling units in Itighidi, Ekureku to inspect and monitor the process.
