At least two people have been arrested by the Police for alleged theft of electrical appliances and other gadgets at the Oyo State House of Assembly Complex, Ibadan.

The arrest follows Police investigations of the invasion of the generator house of the Assembly complex by thieves who carted away some items.

Addressing a Press Conference to give an update on the incident, the Clerk of the House, Mrs Felicia Oyediran said ”it became imperative to report the incident to the Police following the recurrence of the invasion of the facility.”

Oyediran was accompanied by the Vice Chairman, House Committee on Information, Media and Public Affairs, Mr Francis Adetunji; the Chief of Staff to the Speaker, Mr Gabriel Olatundun and the Director, Administration and Supply, Mr Ojo.

The Clerk, who debunked some social media reports that the cables and items stolen from the Assembly complex were worth about N500,000, said only fuses and some other minor items in the generator house, which value is put at less than N50,000, were stolen.

She said that apart from those in custody, two of the night guards, amongst others, have been invited for interrogation by the Police, stressing that ”the management of the complex still awaits the findings of the Police on the matter, before knowing the next line of action.”

Although the Assembly is currently on recess, Oyediran said the issue had not in anyway disrupted legislative duties of the lawmakers and that various committees have been meeting and working, as expected of the lawmakers.

While calling for a better working relationship with the Media, the Clerk assured the people that the management would get to the root of the matter while ensuring that justice is done.

Also, the Clerk assured all workers and visitors to the complex that additional security measures have been put in place to ensure the safety of lives and property.
