The Governorship Candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC and the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA have rejected the result of the Abia State election.
Uchechukwu Ogah of the APC and Dr Felix Otti of the APGA accused the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC of conniving with the security agencies and the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP to change the result to favour it.
INEC had on Sunday declared the sitting Governor and the candidate of the PDP, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu the winner of the Gubernatorial election.
Governor Ikpeazu pulled 261,127 votes to defeat Ogah who got 99,574 votes and Dr Otti with 64,366 votes.
Call for poll’s cancellation
At a joint press conference in Umuahia, the state capital, the two candidates however called for the total cancellation of the election.
“We want to inform the general public that the results collated in the 17 local governments in the state are not only fraudulent but do not represent the true reflection of the outcome of the result and not also consistent with the card readers details,” they said.
They accused the INEC of intentionally bringing back the Returning officer, Professor Benjamin Ozurumba whom it used in changing the 2015 election to also change the 2019 election result in favour of the ruling party.
Professor Ozurumba said he has done the work the Nigerian government and INEC gave him transparently.
He advised the aggrieved parties to file in their petitions if they were satisfied and it would be investigated properly.
Also the PDP agent, Erondu Uche said the results were authenticated by the opposition parties agents at the collation centres and they confirmed they were transparent.
Thirty-two candidates from 43 political parties in Abia State contested for the governorship election.
Okezie Ikpeazu is the 9th Governor to rule Abia State popularly called the God’s own State.
