Tyson Fury is ‘set to face’ unknown German heavyweight, Tom Schwarz, in his first fight since signing a deal with American promoter, Top Rank.
The British heavyweight disappointed fans in February by announcing he would seek an interim fight before any rematch with Deontay Wilder.
The Gypsy King and the Bronze Bomber were tied for a controversial draw back in December and a rematch was expected to take place in May.
But following news that Fury had signed an £80m deal with Top Rank to show his fights on ESPN, the 30-year-old told WBC that a more likely date with Wilder would be in the autumn.
Schwarz is an unknown quantity for British audiences. The 6ft 6in WBO Inter-Continental title holder has an impressive unbeaten record, winning 24 fights – 16 of which by knockout.
The 24-year-old’s last fight saw him knockout Kristijan Krstacic earlier this month – his fourth knockout from his last five bouts.
Schwarz has only fought outside Germany twice during his career to date.He has a German championship under his belt and can also boast WBO and WBC Youth titles.
The Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas is thought to be a possible venue for Fury’s first match-up following the partnership between American Bob Arum and Frank Warren.
