Chiamaka Nnadozie, goal keeper for Nigeria’s U-20 female team – The Falconets – has been showered with praises for her outstanding performance in the team’s 1-0 win over Haiti at the U-20 FIFA Women’s World Cup currently hosted by France.
The Falconets beat the Haitians by a loan goal – but it would have been a different story.
Indeed, but for Nnadozie’s marvelous saves, stern control of the Falconets’ backline and calmness under pressure, the Haitians would have severely beaten Nigeria.
For all her efforts, Nnadozie won the ‘Player of the Match‘ award at the end of 90 minutes.
The steering role played by Nnadozie did not go unappreciated by her team mates – as well as fans.
“A big big thank you to our senior goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie for a 10/10 peformance today. Deserved the Player of the Match,” said goal scorer Rasheedat Ajibade.
“All thanks to God for the victory today. It feels great to be back and getting better. Thanks to all for the zeal. We are here to rule!”
Ayo Omidiran, the house committee chairperson on NFF Women Football felicitated with the Falconets after their hard-fought victory.
She also commended Nnadozie’s heroice.
“Our goalkeeper, Chiamaka, is the player of the match. Nigeria 1 -0 Haiti,” she tweeted.
Ehi Akpata, a lawyer and football fan praised Nnadozie for her great performance.
“Goes without saying. She has had two great performances already,” he said.
The Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) congratulated the Falconets and urged them to do more.
“Having gotten all 3 points against the Haitians, we say Soar Falconets over China with another sweet victory. Congratulations girls, we salute the fight in you.”
The Falconets must now win or draw their last match against China to qualify for the quarter-finals.
The Chinese were whipped 2-0 by Germany, leaving the latter with six points at the top of the group.
