Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Joy Udo-Gabriel on Friday emerged as the national junior women’s 100m champion at the Athletics Federation of Nigeria’s National Youth and Junior Championships in Ozoro after winning the race in 11.56secs.
The competition serves as the trials for the African U-20 Championships in Algeria, the IAAF World Youth Championship in Kenya, and the Commonwealth Youth Games in the Bahamas.
The 18-year-old University of Lagos Law student, who is sponsored by Arco Group, won bronze in the 4x100m relay along with Tobi Amusan, Blessing Okagbare and Rosemary Chukwuma at the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
Chukwuma, who represented Kids N’Play Foundation, came second in 11.71secs and Blessing Ogundiran finished third in 11.78secs. Marvelous Asemota took fourth position in 11.87secs, Chiamaka Egbochinam was fifth in 11.92secs, Nwokocha Uzubechi was sixth in 11.94secs, Fadahunsi Teniola was seventh in 12.13secs and Omovoh Knowledge finished last in 12.15secs.
