Super Eagles of Nigeria goalkeepers trainer Alloy Agu says Deportivo La Coruna goalkeeper Francis Uzoho similar qualities with former number one Carl Ikeme, hence his preference over Ikechukwu Ezenwa and Daniel Akpeyi.
Since he made a substitute appearance against Argentina in November, Uzoho has manned the posts against Poland, Serbia, DR Congo, England and Czech republic.
”Uzoho reminds me of Ikeme. Ikeme came into the national team and was eager to very hard to help the team. He stood very tall for the Eagles and deservedly became the first choice goalkeeper until he fell sick unfortunately,” Agu said in an interview with the print version of Sportinglife newspaper.
”Uzoho too was very calm when he made his debut for the Eagles against Argentina last November. Uzoho is cool headed and has continued to improve after each match. Our role as coaches is to work on the lapses of the three goalkeepers in camp to help them gain confidence and do well anytime they are called upon to be in goal”, he concluded.
Uzoho is expected to lead the Eagles backline against Croatia, Iceland and Argentina in Group D of Russia 2018.
