Osun state University has disclosed its plans to aid Nigeria’s attainment of the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The disclosure was made at the weekend and contained in a statement issued by the Acting Director, Global Affairs and Sustainable Development Institute(GASDI), Osun state University, Professor Victor Adetimirin.
Adetimirin said the Institution, as part of proffering workable solutions to developmental challenges in the country, would start awarding post graduate degrees in Sustainable Development Practice,
Indigenous Knowledge and Heritage Studies.
Other areas to be covered are:
Leadership and Governance, Peace and Conflict Studies, Climate and Society, and Migration Studies.
According to the Ag. Director, building enough human capital in this regard would hasten the nation’s attainment of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
“Situated at the core of Yoruba Culture and tradition, the institute is also poised to pursue research and carry out other initiatives on Yoruba and the world.
“We will also run short duration certificate courses in these fields as well as conduct workshops to improve the efficiency of governmental and non-governmental organizations”, the Ag. Director said.
Prof Adetimirin also noted that an International Symposium that would bring together world-renowned scholars and other stakeholders on SDGs would take place between 25th and 26th June, 2019 at the Osun state University Main Campus Osogbo.
The Symposium is expected to deepen the discourse on the practice of sustainable development in Nigeria and proffer solutions to its challenges.
