Mediation talks between Venezuela’s government and opposition have entered an “indefinite recess” after their failure to reach agreement over a date for the presidential election, Dominican Republic President Danilo Medina said on Wednesday.

“We couldn’t reach agreement,” Medina told reporters in Santo Domingo in comments broadcast on Venezuelan television, bemoaning the breakdown of talks being hosted on the island. “No conflict in the world has been resolved without dialogue.”
