VON Director General commends TETFund interventions

The Director General of Voice of Nigeria, VON, Mr Osita Okechukwu has commended the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, TETFund, for its even spread interventions across the six Geo-political zones in Nigeria.

This took place during the visitation of the VON Management staff led by Mr Osita Okechukwu to the Tertiary Education Trust Fund Office in Abuja.

The VON DG applauded the fund for its intervention across public tertiary institutions saying so far, no public Institution in any State has complained of being left out.

He stated:“Voice of Nigeria has the international broadcast capacity through its outlets to properly inform the global audience of positive impacts made by the TETFund in placing Nigerian public higher Institutions on the global platforms.”

Mr Osita Okechukwu solicited for a partnership between the two Organisations to further project the education mandate of TETFUND and other programmes of the fund.

According to VON DG: “All we are doing is to live up to our mandate that says we should project the image of Nigeria, we are not into propaganda that is why we say an agency like yours should partner with us, we understand that you are broadly applying the interventions across the six geo Political zones that every state is benefiting and no State is left out.”

“We commend TETFUND, it is an important agency in repositioning tertiary education sub-sector in Nigeria, that nobody has complain that the fund is missing them out for that , we say it is a good work you are doing, “he added.

“Voice of Nigeria will use the channels to let the world know what you are doing because Nigeria belongs to a class of ten most populous nation of the world and among the ten, only three are gifted like Nigeria with 60 percent of youths cadre, so when you have that youth cadre anything done in the education sector becomes very important, “he added.

The Executive Secretary of Tertiary Education Trust Fund, Prof. Elias Bogoro, described Voice of Nigeria, as a gatekeeper of messages going to the rest of the world.

He said the fund acknowledge the role of Voice of Nigeria in informing the world about the progressive developments of TETFUND, other government agencies and the country as a whole.

He stated that laws establishing TETFUND were clear on its intervention scheme, specifically on equality of intervention in public higher Institutions across the zones.

“The laws establishing TETFUND have guided the fund’s intervention framework. We considered this courtesy visit by VON DG and the management team as a privilege.

“It was only in 2011 that TETFUND emerged from ETF and due to the crucial need of government’s intervention in public higher Institutions such as Public Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges of Education.”

TETFUND take seriously roles of media in informing the world about what we do and how we achieve the progress, we are much interested in collaborating with Voice of Nigeria in its core mandate, let us know these areas and we will reflect over the areas as well as get back to you, I promise you sir.”

He however expressed the readiness of TETFUND to partner with Voice of Nigeria in its core mandate saying the fund is interested in collaborating with VON in informing the world about the activities of Tertiary Education Trust Fund.
