Voting has commenced in Umuahia, the Abia State capital for the Gubernatorial and House of Assembly’s elections.
People turned out em-masse in Umukabia, Nkwoegwu, Ohaukwu and Umule wards in Umuahia North Local government Area, to vote the candidates of their choice.
Moment for change
Former All Progressives Congress, APC, Ikechi Emenike described the turnout as impressive and a moment for change to come to Abia State.
Emenike called on the people to remain peaceful throughout the voting exercise.
Thirty-two candidates from the 43 political parties in the state are contesting for Governorship election.
The frontline candidates are; The sitting Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Uchechukwu Ogah from the All Progressives Congress party, APC, Dr Alex Otti from the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA and Dr Blessing Nwagba of the Social Democratic Party, SDP.
For the State House of Assembly, 353 candidates are for the 24 member House.
The security personnel are heavily on ground to ensure the exercise is peaceful and violence free.
