Nigeria’s Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo is presiding over the 99th meeting of the National Economic Council taking place at the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The meeting, which commenced at about 12.30pm on Thursday, has Governors from various states in attendance, while others are being represented by their deputies.
Last month, the NEC, proposed the setting up of a task force to check the smuggling of petroleum products across Nigeria’s borders.
Thursday’s meeting may consider the extent to which the proposal has gone.
Other issues that may come up at the meeting include security, the repayment of the budget support fund given to states by the Nigerian government and the National Livestock Transformation Plan, NLTP.
The NEC is chaired by the vice president and has Governors of Nigeria’s 36 states, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning and Minister of State for Petroleum as members.
