World Boxing Council (WBC) champion Deontay Wilder put up a sterling performance to beat stubborn Cuban challenger Luis Ortiz in the 10th round of their heavyweight title fight in New York.
The American had floored Ortiz twice in the 5th round, but he was all over the place in the 7th round as the Cuban rocked him with shockingly powerful shots to the temple.
Wilder barely survived and was saved by the bell.
But with fatigue taking its toll on Ortiz despite jumping in front on the judges score, in the 10th round Wilder dug deep and finished the job with a flurry of punches that brought Ortiz to his knees.
The referee called the match in favour of the “Bronze Bomber” after the American put down Ortiz a second time to retain his WBC title and extend his career statistics to 40-0-KO39.
