Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has released the final list of 23 players expected to lead Nigeria’s quest for world cup glory in Russia.
Amongst the players Rohr picked include: Arsenal’s Alex Iwobi, Chelsea winger Victor Moses, Leicester City’s Wilfred Ndidi, Kelechi Iheanacho and Ahmed Musa have also been included in Gernot Rohr’s squad.
New Brighton signing Leon Balogun features, and former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel will captain the side.
There was however a surprise inclusion for Ogenyi Onazi and Joel Obi, who have failed consistently to impress in four friendly matches for Nigeria since March.
Consequently Mikel Agu was sacrificed.
As predicted by VON, the German tactician dropped one of the left full-backs.
Indeed there was no place however for Chelsea prodigy Ola Aina as Rohr went for the duo of Elderson Echijile and Brian Idowu.
Crotone striker Simeon Nwankwo, who only made his international debut in the 1-1 draw with DR Congo on Monday, has been selected.
The Super Eagles have not made it beyond the last 16 in five appearances at the World Cup.
The tournament starts on 14 June, with Nigeria drawn with Argentina, Iceland and Croatia in Group D.
