Nigeria’s Minister of State for Works and Housing, Abubakar Aliyu urged all intending delegate to the 10th World Urban Forum to optimally harness the diverse opportunities it offers, and attract frontier technologies to efficiently address the urban challenges especially in implementation of the new urban agenda and the urban SDGs.
The Minister made the call at a meeting with relevant stakeholders in the housing sector in Abuja with the theme, Achieving National Housing and Urban Development Goals: Opportunities for Partnership and Technical Cooperation.
He noted that the meeting would enable stakeholders acquaint themselves with insight into operation and opportunities for collaboration with key multilateral partners who have contributed to the advancement of housing and human settlements development in the country.
The session also provided useful guidance for intending delegates to the forth coming 10th World Urban Forum holding in United Arab Emirate next month.
“The World Urban Forum is holding in Abu, Dhabi, United Arab Emirate from 8th to 13th next has grown over the last 18 years to become the land mark event in the calendar of the global urban community month”. I therefore hope that the outcome of the session would chart a more progressive part for sustainable development that is more responsive to the need of all,” the Minister added.
The Minister said the meeting was apt in view of the diverse challenges which exist in the face of the phenomenal population and urban growth being experienced in the country.
Participants at the meeting included members of the National Assembly, Shelter Afrique, UN Habitat, United Nation Economic Commission for Africa, UN Agencies and International Organizations among others.
