Nigeria’s Blessing Oborududu and Adekuoroye Odunayo on Saturday emerged victorious at Yaşar Doğu, a World Wrestling Championship held in Istanbul, Turkey.
Oborodudu defeated Ukraine’s Alina Berezhna Makhynia 10-0 to clinch the bronze medal in the Women’s Wrestling 68kg category.
Adekuoroye also won a gold medal in Women’s Wrestling 57kg category, beating her Ukrainian opponent, Tetyana Kit 10-0.
With the win, Adekuoroye is expected to be ranked in the top-three in her weight class.
She earlier won the German World Ranking series and placed third at the Bulgarian ranking tournament in early 2019.
Oborududu will also be placed in the top eight having won two bronze medals in Germany and Istanbul this year.
“This is expected to aid their qualification and performance at Tokyo 2020,” President, Nigeria Wrestling Federation, Daniel Igali, said.
Also, Nigeria’s Latifat Tijani won bronze in the women’s up to 45kg category at the ongoing Nur-Sultan 2019 World Para-Powerlifting Junior Championships in Nur Sultan, Kazakhstan.
Tijani’s first attempt of 105kg secured her the bronze, as she failed her next two attempts of 112kg and 116kg respectively.
