Yobe livestock farmers lament high cost of animal feeds

Livestock farmers in Damaturu, Yobe, North-East Nigeria have attributed high cost of animals to scarcity and increasing cost of animal feeds.

A medium size ram which was sold at N20,000 three months ago is now sold between N27,000 and N30,000, while a big size ram that was sold for N30,000 during the same period now goes between N40,000 and N45,000.

Mr. Mohammed, a livestock dealer at the Damaturu Sunday Market, said the prices of animal feeds had continuously been on the increase.

Mr. Usman Bulama, another dealer in Damaturu, said that the high cost of feeds and maintenance of the animals had forced him to reduce his stock.
